Under 2500: The new bass-heavy producer you need to follow

Rewind almost two weeks ago to Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival. It was a weekend where nearly 40,000 people camped together in the Florida swamplands and experienced pure musical bliss. And perhaps, one of my favorite things about going to music festivals is discovering new music.

Introducing the Orlando native up & comer, D3V. Originally scheduled to perform at the Silent Disco on Saturday night, D3V successfully ‘sold out’ as there was a line to get a pair of headphones to listen to his set. Because of his demand, he was asked to play an unplanned set at the Peace Pavilion on Sunday night from 9pm-10pm. That’s the set that I caught.

And now…I have a bold statement to make. Are you ready? D3V may easily have been my favorite trap/bass set I saw all weekend. No, I’m not kidding. I caught the back half of his second set and immediately I was hooked. His sound was the perfect amount of dirt, grime and effortless bass.

Devenn Bencon is a 22-year-old producer who’s made quite the impression on the Orlando music scene, but surprisingly he’s only been mixing for about a year. His inspirations are Ekali and San Holo. And if you ask him, he describes himself as a “Future Bass/Bass-driven trap” artist. Additionally, he’s back with the brand new mix “Rise Up,” which echos the impactful sounds of producers such as Excision or Snails.
